We’ve all seen graphs that show total numbers of confirmed COVID-19 cases and deaths. Regrettably, the US tops those charts. What we rarely see are global numbers put into perspective relative to their populations. Using Tableau, we created animated visualizations based on country population and found some surprising global results.
This next, larger visualization examines the COVID-19 pandemic within the United States, by all 50 states and the District of Columbia over time. As with the country viz above, we look at COVID-19 confirmed cases and deaths as a percentage of 100,000 people for the bubble charts. To enable additional comparisons, we added two charts with selectable X axes so the viewer can see how the states fall across population density, percentage of multi-family housing, political leaning, race and education.
